WALKER EVANS
He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jessie (née Crane) and Walker,Walker Evans came from an affluent family. His father was an advertising director. He spent his youth in Toledo, Chicago, and New York City. He graduated from Phillips Academy, in Andover, Massachusetts, 1922.He said that his goal as a photographer was to make pictures that are "literate, authoritative, transcendent".

W. Eugene Smith



Smith graduated from Wichita North High School in 1936. He began his career by taking pictures for two local newspapers. He was known for his refusal to compromise professional standards and his brutally vivid World War II photographs.

Nominations: National Book Award for Contemporary Affairs


He was taking photos of wars and world disasters and was inputting his own message into the photos. He believed that a photographer should be at the scene and every one of his photographs had his signature.
